Scripture

So God created human beings in his image. He created them male and female. God blessed them…
‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden’… The woman took some of its fruit and ate it. She also gave some of the fruit to her husband who was with her and he ate it.”

Genesis 1: 26-7; 3: 3, 6

Reflect

“LOOK!” cries one of my little girls! This of course means she has now stopped right in front of my legs and I being considerably larger than her and carrying shopping have to do everything within my power not to fall on her! Once I’ve picked myself up off the ground I look to see what it is that she has seen. What is it that was so important? “Look Dad! It’s a ladybird!” All of that for a ladybird, an ordinary one, red with seven black spots! But she is fascinated! Excited! Enthralled even! This happened a while back but when we look at the world we are filled with awe and wonder at the one who existed before anything else came into being. God created the world and put us in it showing us how to enjoy it and look after it. Unfortunately, we’ve not always listened to God and, a bit like Adam and Eve, we’ve often preferred to do things in our own way. When we ignore the one who made us, we can sometimes get ourselves, and our world, into a bit of mess. As we look forward to Christmas, we will remind ourselves about Jesus, the one who came to tell us about God’s ways and to show us how to get out of the mess we’ve caused and live life to the max!

Explore:

Recall times when you’ve done things your way and ended up getting into a bit of a mess. How can we change the way we live to make the world a better place and to take better care of God’s creation?

Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for creating such a beautiful world and for sending Jesus to show us how to live. Amen.
